What is Doping & Why Anti-Doping Matters 

In the world of competitive sports, "doping" refers to the use of banned substances to artificially enhance performance. These performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) promise quick gains but come with severe health risks and ethical issues. 

Anti-doping is more than just a set of rules; it is a crucial practice that prevents the dangers of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and supports the overall well-being of all athletes and sportsmen. Here are the top 3 reasons why anti-doping is essential: 

Winning Right: The Importance of Anti-Doping Education 

World Triathlon has placed education as the cornerstone of its Anti-Doping program. This is crucial for protecting athletes, coaches, and parents and upholding the values of fair competition and integrity, benefiting the entire sporting community. 

World Triathlon offers a variety of educational courses tailored to different groups within the triathlon community. These courses are accessible on the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub (Moodle)  

Within the Anti-Doping section, World Triathlon currently offers 4 different for the following target audiences: 

• High Performance Coaches 
• Youth Athletes 
• Elite Athletes 
• International Para triathletes 

There is no restriction on who takes the courses, with some people taking more than one, if they fall into multiple target audiences. 

 The Badge System: Tracking and Verification 

A unique feature of the Anti-Doping Education course is the way that it uses the Badge System and how this is connected to Race Entries. This system serves multiple purposes: 

• Credentialing: Upon completion of the course, participants automatically earn a Moodle badge. Each badge has a unique identifier that verifies the completion of the necessary training. 
• Integration with Race Entry: Integration between the badge system and the World Triathlon race entry system, ensures that only those who have completed the required anti-doping education can participate in competitions. This integration helps verify that athletes are informed and compliant with anti-doping rules. 
• Validity Period: Badges are valid for two years, covering the current and following years, ensuring that participants remain up-to-date with the latest information and regulations. Once an athlete’s badge expires, they would have to redo the training to enter races. 
• Eligibility for Competition: During race registration, the system matches an athlete's details with their badge information. If the athlete has earned an appropriate badge for that particular event, they are eligible to compete. If not, the system prompts them to complete the necessary anti-doping education. 

Upholding Integrity in Athletics  

With the upcoming Olympics in Paris 2024, it is crucial for all athletes and sportspeople to be educated on the importance of clean sport with the education provided by the Education and Knowledge Hub being a key player in this process.
