Secure, Seamless Access for Institutions & Providers

From global universities to enterprise platforms, Overt’s Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions deliver secure, frictionless access. We simplify complex identity management protocols like SAML and Azure AD, ensuring your organisation stays compliant while providing a seamless login experience for all users.

We’re very excited by the prospect of bringing Single Sign On between Shibboleth and Azure authenticated resources such as Office 365 to the University of Dundee. Our users will benefit from one unified familiar Sign in Experience wherever they go first which is a far better experience. This will simplify access to all kinds of resources in one stroke. Our pilot group think it’s fantastic, we’ve had nothing but great feedback. It’s been a great experience working with Overt in setting this up.

Simplify Access, No Matter Where You Start

Whether you're new to SSO or replacing a legacy setup, we’ll help you deploy secure, seamless access that works.

New to SSO?

We guide you through assessing your identity systems, configuring the right SAML or OpenID Connect protocol, and deploying securely.

Upgrading or Replacing SSO?

We minimise disruption during migration from legacy systems (e.g., LDAP) by providing planning, rigorous testing, and phased rollout—all tailored to your environment.

Need Secure Access Across Organisations?

We manage complex external logins for federations (like Shibboleth), CPD clients, and multi-partner platforms—ensuring secure, auditable access without complexity.

Technical Questions About Our

SSO Solutions

1. What’s the difference between SSO and federated access?

Both terms relate to streamlining logins, but they differ in scope:

  • Single Sign-On (SSO): Allows a user to log in once (e.g., to a university portal) and gain access to multiple, internal applications without needing to re-enter credentials.
  • Federated Access: This is a more advanced form of SSO that allows a user to log in to one domain (e.g., your university) and securely access a partner's or external organisation's application (e.g., a shared research database). Federation is essential for multi-partner access and external identity management (often using protocols like Shibboleth).

2. Do you support MFA or conditional access?

Yes, our SSO solutions fully support both Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access, which are non-negotiable for modern security:

  • MFA Support: We support various MFA methods (e.g., authenticator apps, tokens) that integrate seamlessly with your existing Identity Provider (IdP), like Azure AD / Entra ID.
  • Conditional Access: We enable granular Conditional Access policies that define when and how users access resources based on factors like user group, location, device health, and network security. This ensures maximum security control.

3. Can we control who gets access to specific systems?

Absolutely. Granular control over user access is fundamental to our SSO and access management platform. You can control access through several integrated methods, including:

  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Assigning permissions based on job function (e.g., staff vs. student).
  • Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC): Using user attributes (e.g., department or enrolment status) to grant or deny access to specific applications.
  • Group Management: Syncing your existing directory groups (e.g., LDAP or Active Directory groups) to control application authorisation automatically.
This level of control ensures your organisation remains compliant and that users only access the system they are authorised to use.
